This season the ECNL will feature the college corner, a section highlighting ECNL alums who were named Players of the Week from NCAA Division 1 conferences around the country. The inaugural week features four players who were outstanding on the field for their college teams.

 

Girls

Pac 12 Offensive Player of the Week

Reilyn Turner Jr – UCLA

ECNL Club – SoCal Blues

Turner scored the game winning goals in UCLA’s wins over then-No. 1 North Carolina and No. 2 Duke last week. Not only did this win her Pac 12 Player of the Week honors, but the junior forward was also named College Soccer News Women’s National Player of the Week for her weekend performance. During her time in the ECNL, Turner was the leading goal scorer for the SoCal Blues.

 

A-10 Offensive Player of the Week

Emily Groark – SLU

ECNL Club – SLSG

Groark registered seven points on the week in SLU’s wins over Missouri State and Nebraska. The redshirt senior scored in the first minute of the match against Missouri State, before tacking on another goal and an assist in SLU’s 7-0 victory. In SLU’s 5-1 victory later in the week against Nebraska, Groark tallied her third goal of the week. When she was with the ECNL, Groark helped her St. Louis Scott Gallagher U15 and U17 teams qualify for the ECNL Champions League.

 

Boys

Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week

Steven Hernandez – UNCG

ECNL Club – NC Fusion

Hernandez helped lead UNCG to a 5-1 win over Coastal Carolina last week, scoring a hat trick along the way. The freshman scored his first collegiate goal in the 19th minute, before adding on goals in both the 53rd and 71st minutes to complete his hat trick. With the ECNL, Hernandez was a member of NC Fusion.

 

Ivy League Rookie of the Week

Ryan Friedberg – Cornell

ECNL Club – STA

Friedberg made four saves in Cornell’s season-opening 2-1 win at UC Santa Barbara. The freshman goalkeeper is the first Big Red goalie to win his first start since 2007. Friedberg was a member of STA during his time in the ECNL.
