This season the ECNL will feature the college corner, a section highlighting standout ECNL alums who were named Players of the Week from their respective NCAA Division 1 conferences around the country. This week features four players who were outstanding on the field for their college teams.

 

Girls

PAC 12 Offensive Player of the Week

Kayla Colbert – USC

ECNL Club – Legends FC

Colbert scored an opening goal in the third minute in the Trojans’ 2-0 win over then-No. 19 California. The sophomore then assisted on USC’s second goal of the game 15 minutes later. Colbert is third on USC in points this season with 10. During her time in the ECNL, Colbert played for Legends FC where she scored 14 goals in 2019.

 

Big East Offensive Player of the Week

Jessica Garziano – St. John’s

ECNL Club – SUSA FC

Garziano scored one goal and notched an assist in a 1-0-1 week for St. John’s. The senior midfielder netted her goal in the 27th minute of St. John’s 3-1 win at Butler. Her assist came later in the same match in the 57th minute. Garziano finished tied for second in points (3) last week and is currently tied for fifth (11) on the season. While in the ECNL, Garziano played for SUSA FC.

 

Boys

Big South Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Gareth Shaw – Winthrop

ECNL Club – Albion Hurricanes FC

For the second straight week, Gareth Shaw took home Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors. The freshman made a career-high seven saves in his second-straight shutout to help Winthrop to a 1-0 win at UNC Asheville.  He faced a total of 24 shots on the afternoon. While in the ECNL, Shaw played for Albion Hurricanes FC.

 

Big South Freshman of the Week

Jefferson Amaya – High Point

ECNL Club – Charlotte Independence

Amaya netted the game-winning score in High Point’s 1-0 victory at Campbell last Wednesday.  It was his first goal of the season and came in the 86th minute off a free kick, where he evaded Campbell’s three-man wall and goalkeeper with a shot that found the lower right corner of the net. During his time in the ECNL, Amaya was captain of the Charlotte Independence team that won the 2021 U18/19 ECNL National Championship.
