RICHMOND, Va. (September 16, 2021) – The ECNL Boys is thrilled to announce that the 2021-22 season will feature the first-ever ECNL Boys Regional League Finals, where 16 teams in each age group from U13 – U18/19 will compete in single-elimination knockout brackets to crown the ECNL Boys Regional League Champions. The ECNL Boys Regional League Finals will be held in conjunction with the ECNL Boys Club Competition National Playoffs in San Diego in June 2022.
“ECNL Boys has grown significantly at the Regional League level in the past 12 months, and we could not be more excited to introduce the league’s first ECNL Boys Regional League Finals,” said ECNL Boys Commissioner, Jason Kutney. “This type of event was extremely important to our clubs, especially after the success of the postseason structure at the club competition level this past year. Holding the ECNL Boys Regional League Finals alongside the ECNL Boys National Playoffs in San Diego, and putting the best soccer the ECNL has to offer in one place at one time, will also attract more scouts and raise the competition and atmosphere immensely.”
The qualification path to the ECNL Boys Regional League Finals is the same at each age group:
- The top two teams from each of the Florida, Heartland, SoCal, Southeast and Virginia Regional Leagues will automatically qualify for the ECNL Boys Regional League Finals.
- The two division winners of the Northeast and Texas Regional Leagues at each age group will qualify for the ECNL Boys Regional League Finals – a total of four teams.
- The Carolinas Regional League will send two teams to the Regional League Finals at the U13 and U14 levels, and one at the U15-U18/19 age group.
- The Northwest Regional League will send one team to the Regional League Finals at each age group from U15-U18/19.
Each team that participates in the ECNL Boys Regional League Finals is guaranteed three games, with the two teams advancing to the Championship match competing in a fourth match. The winners will be crowned during the ECNL Boys Club Competition National Playoffs in San Diego.
